Headed to Raleigh next month. Where's the best place(s) to try the local BBQ? Thanks. I live there and I have heard that Knightdale Seafood and BBQ I have not been there) is good. Cooper's Barbecue & Catering is also good. Look them up on triangle.citysearch.com Have fun |

Cooper's is definitely the best-known 'cue shack in Raleigh. Not sure how
much longer it will be in its current location, but it will be there for a while. It's probably my fave in the area. The best-known "chain" out here -- it's not too awful big, but all over the state -- is Smithfield. It's not bad. Apex has Dixie Belle, which isn't bad either, I like all the sides they offer in addition to the 'cue. There are lots more around, but I've only lived here a year myself -- and been travelling most of that -- so I haven't found a lot. To make things simple, just start with Cooper's and see if anything else you find compares. nechvatal wrote: n Headed to Raleigh next month. Where's the best place(s) to try the local n BBQ? Here's a list from one of the local weekly publications:
Allen and Sons (Chapel Hill) - excellent Clyde Cooper's Barbecue - also excellent Danny's Bar-B-Que - very good The Barbecue Joint (Chapel Hill) - OK The Q Shack - OK Red, Hot and Blue - OK Not eaten at these in a long time: Barbecue Lodge Bullock's (Durham) Dillard's Bar-B-Que Dixie Belle's Bar-B-Q Hog Heaven (Durham) Jim' Famous BBQ (Chapel Hill) Lewis Bar-Be-Que If you have time, it's worth a trip to the Skylight Inn in Ayden, to Wilber's in Goldsboro, or to Lexington.
