Default Source of rub ingrediaents

Hi all;

I just went to Costco to stock up on rub indgredients, &tc. I sadly
discovered that they no longer carry paprika. I used to buy the
roughly quart-sized container for $3-$4, as opposed to $4-$5 for the
small spice container at Safeway.

Any good ideas for cheap spices and other rub ingrediants?

Thanks a heap,
-jbb

I get mine at http://www.pureandnaturalspices.com/catalog/catalog/ for 2.99
a jar. I've been pleased with the quality, prices, and quick shipment.

I've been very happy with the prices, service, and especially the
quality of spices and herbs from http://www.penzeys.com/

If there's an Armenian market nearby, check them out.

Somebody already posted Penzey's as a source. There is also Penderey's which
is almost a mirror image of Penzey's and somewhat cheaper. Both are reliable
sources for quality spices and both have extensive catalogs. For pepper products
specifically, look at Sweet Freedom Farm. (http://www.sweetfreedomfarm.com)

I use Santa Cruz Red Chili powder from the Sonoran Desert in lieu of
Paprika and it gives it a unique flavor and a mild burn. It is available
in just about every grocery store in Tucson and Phoenix but did find one
online retailer for you here...
http://www.sunlandimports.com/page/1...Gourmet/200101
We don't pay $5 for it here in ths stores so you may want to find a
cheaper outlet by emailing the farm directly.

I understand those two [separate], businesses are operated by the same
family - Penderey's being the kids of the Penzey's.

Actually, The Spice House are parents of Penzey's I think, or the other way
around. Both are in the Milwaukee area. I grew up there and used to LOVE
to go into The Spice House because it smelled so good.

Great place. I was at the Chicago location this morning with Gwiv. He
had a special batch of his rub made up for him. I bought cumin, black
pepper, Sichuan peppers, oregano, and a couple of other spices to
round out my collection.

www.thespicehouse.com They will custom blend for you too.

Interesting! I'd like to hear how mom and pop feel about their kids undercutting them
by about 20%.

Mom and Pop are probably laughing all the way to the bank wondering why
those kids are selling so cheap. Penzy's is great stuff, but you do pay a
premium for it. Not only are they top of the line spice merchants, they are
slick marketers.

One mo http://www.rlschreiber.com
I use them for a number of spices, blends(give the "Season 36" a try;
made with 36 ingredients), as well as their soup bases. They 'might'
even have a distributor in your area, who can deliver to your door.

Ed, do you order your Prague Powder or Tenderquick online or do you find it
locally?
