Default Dumb sand question

Hi guys,
I live 2 miles from the ocean. Can I just use beach
sand for my WSM or is that likely to cause rust issues for
the pan? Or should I buy sand, gravel, stone dust, etc.?

I live at the beach and that's what I use. If it's free
of debris I'd say go right ahead.

Beach sand and white wine for seafood.

Play sand and red wine for beef.

Might want to wash it first to remove any salt. But probably OK.

Ed, you're such a traditionalist.

Wal-Mart bag of washed sand about $1.59
Beach sand may stink and will have salt in it.

Cat litter adds a unique aroma to the fire.

I was thinking they meant used cat litter... now that will put in some
aroma... or is that ammonia?

Well, I *meant* to say something. Ended up having to reboot right after I
sent that one.

Gawd I love Windoze.

I was just gonna say that I wouldn't use beach sand on a dare. That's some
nasty, stinky shit...I have access to pure sand cause my mother's married to
a guy that does water purification. Other than that, it's on the jobs.
(think stucco)

My advice: Go to the Home Despot and buy a couple bags of 'play' sand.
Then get thee to a wally world and procure some Reynolds® Heavy Duty Foil
Wrap.

It doesn't matter if you use water or sand, it's simply thermal mass. Sand
is low maintenance.........as long as you don't let the foil start leaking
grease into the sand. (that's a nasty clean up job (been there))

So I think I'm done with my rant for the evening.
