Default Half Full Propane Tank, but low flow of gas

I have three propane tanks so I never run out (well that was the plan
at least).

On the fourth I was having a big BBQ at the house, and after half an
hour, the gas started flowing very light (lower than low setting)...I
checked the tank and it was still pretty heavy (not to mention I had
not used it that much since I re-filled it).

I changed the tank to a completely full tank and the gas started
flowing properly again (Just as a check, I changed it back to the half
full one, still had the problem; changed it back to full one...it still
worked).

So, what the heck is happening? This is the second time this
happened...

These are the new "exchange style" tanks, I am have them re-filled at
local gas station.

Thanks for any help/advice...

could be a defective OPD valve. If they are exchange tanks, exchange them
and be rid of them.

FWIW, Wal Mart has Blue Rhino tanks for $14 a shot. I pay $8.50 at BJ's for
a fill.

Durn it, the BJ's down here in Conyers has jumped up to 9.99 for a
refill.

Still, it's better than the $15 they charge at the local gas station.

I have to shop around. My Ace Hardware is $14 and change.

I have this happen and my solution is to disconnect the tank and bang
it's butt end on the ground. The OPD gets stuck, sometimes it happens
with a high volume of gas outflowing, and a kick in the ass will
usually right the situation.

Some might say this is not safe, but it works for me.

Never had one stick that bad, but the tanks are pretty rugged. A bang or two
won't break it.
