Default Kamado Moving to Ensenada, Mexico

"As of approximately October 25, all Kamado operations and personnel
(administration, sales, customer service and manufacturing) will be
based in Ensenada, Mexico. The Johnson family (Deborah, Richelle,
Laura and Richard) and Bill Nichols, as well as our key factory
workers, are all relocating to Ensenada."

Full story:

http://www.kamado.com/updatepage.htm

The humorous part:

"We expect to expand our staffing in order to respond promptly and
positively to all inquiries and requests for assistance from existing
as well as prospective customers."

I guess next year's cook-off will be south of the border.

I guess that means Richelle is pregnant.

Depends on what the meaning of "positively", "assistance", and "customers"
is...

Doesn't it make you feel great that they decided to sellout to even
cheaper labor down south. Such patriots they are.

I bet the service will be even better now!

Ah yep.

From the FAQ:
*****BEGIN QUOTE*****
Is the move going to make customer service worse?
The move is going to make customer service BETTER. All of the Johnson
family you have always dealt with are moving to Ensenada and will be
right there to answer your questions. We also anticipate hiring
additional staff, perhaps some of the many retired Americans living in
Ensenada, to let us provide the world-class customer service you want
and expect from Kamado. We've sometimes been overwhelmed and not as
responsive as we want to be to phone and e-mail messages. We expect that
to change, and soon.
*****END QUOTE*****

If this move means better profits for Richard, hopefully that really
will lead to better service for us.

Is this company particularly well know for bad customer service? It seems
to be from reading the posts.

I've been thinking about ordering a K., butspending a lot of money with a
company that has a bad rap for service AND is in the middle of a move give
me a little pause.

Thanks,
George

Talk about opening a can of worms.

I would think now is not a good time to order a K. I'd wait until the
dust settles.

Aloha,

Yeah, but if you don't open the can, how are they going to get out?

I think you're right, Nathan. Might be a good time to go with a Klose pit,
and see how things go with Kamado and the move.

thanks,
George

That is indeed a masterpiece of understatement. Kamado is in that stratosphere
of poor service providers - Time Warner Cable, America Online, many Divisions
of Motor Vehicles, etc. - that literally take one's breath away.

I use my K every day, and I love it, but the birth pains - which were akin to
a chicken trying to lay a square egg - have not been forgotten. With each flip
of the spatula, I am often reminded that I paid through the nose for this
thing, and not just with $$$..

Then just pause a little. Life is long, but too short to go through without
a Kamado.

This is the first I've heard of Richard's move but if history proves true,
he'll be back up in about 6 months.

It's worth the wait.

Well folks, I hate to be a spoiler.......BUT

I order my K7 the past June 29th, all stainless upgrades and custom tile
from fujiwatile.com. I received my K7 on Sept 12th (or there abouts). It
came EXACTLY as ordered, NOTHING missing. The packing was over the top safe
and effective for this 400+ pound Faberge egg......

I have cooked turkeys, tri tip, picnic shoulder and just tonight finished
the leftover BB ribs that were gently worked for 5 hours at 240°. I'm
ready to fire it up to 650°+ this weekend for some bone-in rib eye steaks
that have been dry aged. I don't think I'll go out to eat ever
again........ (oh, well ....yeah....... The occasional sushi and shrimp
burritos I just love)

I have to tell ya, I would buy a Kamado again and again and again and again.
I just CANNOT believe the quality of the product and the sensational way it
makes food taste. Amazing ribs! I thought I had it down pat on my Weber
kettle. The ribs were moist, solid, yet cooked to "white bone" perfection.

Mtbchip

AND.... To all the US citizens lurking and posting, if you want to complain
about something, look where your tax dollars are being spent and VOTE as if
you were the BOSS of this lil company we call the USA!!!

Believe me, if you had to live with California law's regarding this kind of
operation you would get the hell out. I'm guessing Ensenada was better and
less expensive than N. Cal.

Costco is thinking about leaving CA for the same reason.
