Default Maverick ET-73

I believe Dana is talking about one of the other Maverick models. I've got
both. The give away is the standby mode which the et-73 doesn't have. but it
does have a low and high alarm for the smoker probe. The one he's talking
about is designed for 2 meats as apposed to a smoker and meat. It's nifty
because it has a timer and clock in it which the et-73 doesn't.

Does this mean there is no low limit alarm on the smoker probe? I
read the manual and it seems this is not the case (there is a low
alarm). Can you elaborate.

Thanks,
RZ

*thank you* Dana, I've been trying to get the lowdown on this for
a while.

My pleasure. I've only had it for a month or so, but it's worked
as expected each time. I lay one probe on the grate and stick
the other into the meat and monitor both temps. What I do miss
is the ability to set an alarm when a probe is *too low* ;-)

So there's no screw in the way anywhere? Maybe they were referring
to the battery plate, or perhaps the design has been updated since
I heard it.

Sure - would you like me to send you a photo offline of the units?

In any case, I'm gettin' one. Thanks dude.

My pleasure - enjoy! I hope you're as happy with yours as I am
with mine. Too bad Overstock.com is out of them at $40 :-( I wonder
if they'll get more later on?

Dana

Yup; I apologize for any confusion I may have caused. I have an
ET-77 apparently.

Default Maverick ET-73

I first bought the Weber digital remote thermometer, and it would'nt
read over 199 degrees, so it was pretty much useless for smoking.

I then purchased the ET-73 from Gadetsource.com and they shipped it
out priority
mail. The reception between the tranmitter and the receiver was
horrible, about 15 feet, kinda defeated the whole concept, I could
almost read the LCD display on the tranmitter at maximum range.

I called the folks at Maverick, very helpful. They told me that they
had a batch (800 + units) that were defective, and this caused poor
reception. They sent me a replacement receiver that day. The range
is now greatly improved.

The ET-73 has a timer, it can count up, or it can count down. There's
no clock, or at least I haven't found one yet. It has a high alarm
and low alarm for the smoker temp that you can set ( has to be reset
every time you use the unit, but it's easy to set). And it has an
alarm for high meaat temp.

The transmitter is water resistant, and the battery door is sealed
with rubber gaskets, and inside this battery door is the "on/off"
switch for the tranmitter. They had to put the switch inside the
battery compartment to keep moisture out of the unit, which is kind of
a pain, but it does protect the switch. There's a thumb type plastic
screw that secures the battery door.

This unit seems to be designed by people that have spoken to folks
that use smokers, and I'm pleased with the unit so far, but I've only
used it two or three times.

One thing I don't care for is there's no easy way to verify that the
receiver is actually reporting the correct temp. that the transmitter
is sending. The receiver will display an old (incorrect) temp. if it
loses sync. with the transmitter. Walk over to the transmitter with
the receiver and they will usually re-sync, but again, it would be
nice to have no displayed temp, rather than an in-correct temp.

There you have it, Thanks.

Neighbor Dave,
The ET-73 DOES have a timer in it. At least mine does. You can use it as a
count-up or count-down timer. I use mine as a count-up timer to see how long
I've cooked something but use temp to decide when it's done.
