Greetings,
The local Kamado dealer tells me that the fire box if guaranteed for life
against cracking due to cold. I live at 8,500 ft above sea level and it gets
cold here. Had a little snow just a week ago! Anyway, the Kamando supposible
can be used year round without having to worry about it being too cold. Is
this true?

A couple of folks have reported the "K" being frozen shut in really cold
climates.

I can't recall any posts regarding cracking of the firebox, though.

You might want ot search posts at the Kamado forum at (kamado.com). You could
even call the factory but it might take a few tries to get a person...if you
just leave a message, it's doubtful that you'll get a return call.

Now what's going on? Are there other places one can buy Kamados than
through Richard in Sacramento?

PS We have very little experience with Ks in very cold weather.

Last I heard, there was a new Kamado Distribution Center in Atlanta.

I use mine year around with winter temps that have been 30F to -10F. Just
leave the chimney and the draft door cracked open a bit when you're done
cooking and you'll have no worries about freezing 'em shut. Harry D uses
his in much colder climes up north in Canada.

Possibly Kamado is the other Kamado or a generic term for ceramic cooker?

It's just that, a distribution center. No stock of anything but Kamado extruded
coconut lump charcoal. If production will ever catch up with demand, they will
*try* to carry stock in Atlanta.

A #9 textured is $850 from Kamado. I doubt that a dealer got one
at a $200-300 discount.

Is it a Kamado kamado? http://www.kamado.com ?

You're right , Steve (on all counts)

Not that much colder than you, Dave. The K's OK but the Operator
shrivels up.
