Note to out of state AFBers: Lexington is located within Davidson
County, North Carolina. This is our tax dollars at work...! Rob -------------------------------------------------- Davidson Leaders Blame Barbecue Smoke For Bad Air Officials Use Monitors To Test Barbecue Theory RALEIGH, N.C. -- Nobody's ever claimed barbecue is a health food, but in Davidson County, they're finding it could be bad for your lungs. Local leaders think an abundance of barbecue restaurants is the reason the county has failed to meet new, stricter air pollution regulations. Officials at the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency do not buy it. They said there are barbecue restaurants all over the state -- and they're considering whether to put the county on the state's dirty air list due out this fall. But Davidson County Manager Robert Hyatt noted that one of the wood-burning restaurants is right near an air monitor in Lexington that flunked the air tests. The state has put five more air monitors in the county to test the barbecue theory. An EPA spokesman said it does not matter whether barbecue smoke is the culprit -- pollution is still pollution.
