Default Things I've learned on my first REAL smoke

1. Never try to transfer hot lump from chimney starter to smoker in bare
feet

2. Always wear a Q mitt

3. NEVER put chimney starter while still hot next to vinyl siding

4. Lump does not burn forever

5. Keep a wet towel next to smoker

6. Don't have too many beers on your first smoke

7. Don't spend a shit load of money on a smoker until you know what
you're doing ( wife is ****ed now about the K)

8. Schedule time for shower before eating dinner as I smell like a camp
fire

9. Water is always a good thing to have near by

and

10. Ya gotta love the way this chicken tastes, tomorrow is pork butt.

Heh! I actually received some criticism for recently writing:

Also, depending on how many smaller chunks-o-lump you get in
the chimney, I sometimes have small glowing coals fall out
the bottom while pouring into the firebox. I don't use goggles
(but probably should) and I sometimes use gloves, but
*full shoes* (not flip-flops, sandals, socks or bare feet)
are _mandatory_.

So - I hope you're OK...

....

7. Don't spend a shit load of money on a smoker until you know what
you're doing ( wife is ****ed now about the K)

Ah, tell her it's OK. The learning curve is not that bad, and you'll
be turning out fine food in the K in no time, without injury.

8. Schedule time for shower before eating dinner as I smell like a camp
fire

Yes, that's actually a very good point. It really improves the
enjoyment of the food IMHO, and someone else recently commented the
same.

10. Ya gotta love the way this chicken tastes, tomorrow is pork butt.

Bingo!!

Enjoy the learning curve.

6. Don't have too many beers on your first smoke

Yep! And betcha you didnt have enough to quite dull the pain either. Did it
burn it's way further into your flesh like mine did?

7. Don't spend a shit load of money on a smoker until you know what
you're doing ( wife is ****ed now about the K)

LOL! You still did right.

8. Schedule time for shower before eating dinner as I smell like a
camp fire

She'll get over it. There is a saying that goes something like 'buy
once, cry once' The K will probably last you a life time. Just gotta
learn how to use it. And many folks here will be glad to assist you.

Happy Q'en,
BBQ
