All -
I was planning on trying to build a smoker this summer, but I saw this cheapie at the Home Depot. It is a side firebox barrel unit, perhaps 2 1/2 feet long. Any opinions on its functionality and durability? P -- _______________________________________ El Penguini - 1/2 Penguin, 1/2 Chicken - All Fowl "Penguins is practically chickens" |

"M&M" : I guess you can take it on faith or not. I shopped the Chargriller with and without the firebox before I bought my NB Silver. If you choose to believe that I don't know what I'm talking about that's your choice. heya M&M, I have noticed your replys tend to not have ANY info from the preceding post you are replying to... are you doing this on purpose to confuse the reader? If you prefer to not carry any of the proceeding text as a norm... Ill just refrain from seeing your posts.. Good luck |

OK, I may have made some assumptions, also, first pass I somehow missed the top door and thought they were complete imbiciles and removed that as well. But it does look like they have the coals sitting directly on the bottom sheet metal with no grate or air space beneath for ashes to collect in. Is that correct? -- |

But it does look like they have the coals sitting directly on the bottom sheet metal with no grate or air space beneath for ashes to collect in. Is that correct? No, it is not. The coals sit on a (removable) grate. In addition, there is another grate, which allows you to grill in the firebox. I find that very handy, as it allows me to grill veggies, corn, sausages, etc. My only complaint about the firebox is that the vent is made of very crappy metal. Once the heat picks up, the vent becomes very soft and difficult to operate. Also, it is virtually impossible to completely shut the air to the firebox. I used to do that on a Weber kettle and salvage some of the charcoal left over after the Q is done. C. |
