Default Honey Bacon Barbecue Sauce

For those who don't want a tomato-based sauce.

Honey Bacon Barbecue Sauce
Yield: 3 1/2 cups

1/2 pound bacon, chopped
1 medium onion, diced
1 garlic clove, minced
1 can (14 1/2 ounces ready-to-use chicken broth
1 bottle (12 ounces) chili sauce
1 cup honey
2 tablespoons lemon juice
1 teaspoon hot pepper sauce
1 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon black pepper

In a large pot, cook the bacon for 5 to 6 minutes over medium-high
heat, or until lightly browned, stirring occasionally. Add the onion
and garlic and cook for 2 to 3 minutes, or until the onion is tender,
stirring constantly. Add the remaining ingredients and bring to a
boil. Reduce the heat to medium-low and cook for 40 to 45 minutes, or
until the sauce has thickened, stirring occasionally. Serve warm.
NOTE: This works great served over meat or poultry.

Uh, aren't tomatoes the main ingredient in "chili sauce"? I assume you mean
the Hunts/Heinz stuff in the bottle that looks like a funky bottle of
ketchup. Recipe looks good but I'm just saying.

Yep, chili sauce's got maters in it. But like I said up front
"tomato-based". When ya look at the other stuff and then the chili
sauce's amount in relationship, it ain't mater-based.

So who's the linguist now?

Looking at the ingredients chicken broth is the most plentiful followed by
the chili sauce which is comprised mostly of tomatoes. Like I said it looks
like a scrumdiddlyumptious recipe but it's got plenty of tomatoes. If
someone were looking to avoid tomatoes they might see your comment about
this not being "tomato-based" and get the wrong idea.

Far as I can tell, chili sauce is mater-based. That's
what makes it red like ketchup.
