Default Rob's Mods for NB Western Wrangler (a.k.a. Black Diamond)

I'm working on two mods for my NB Western Wrangler (a.k.a. Black
Diamond) this week in preparation for the upcoming holiday weekend.

The first mod I'll be doing is upgrading the wimpy assed screws that
support the cooking grates. I've had a few near misses with the grates
rolling around on top of the screws and (almost) falling off.

I bought some flat,"L" shaped, slotted stock at Lowe's (2 pcs of 5
foot length.) I removed the cooking grates and laid some newspaper in
the bottom of the cooking chamber. (Tough to see black hardware the
falls otherwise!)

My rig has a shelf off the front so, I pulled that off and removed the
support screws. Now, I'm attaching the new support to the front and
will repeat for the back. I reused the exisiting screws.

The other mod is to "convert" to Lazy Q/propane. I'm going to mount an
extra gas burner from a turkey fryer to some flat metal stock so it
sits just under the grate in the firebox. I plan on getting a cast
iron skillet to put the wood chunks on.

It's 400 degree brisket cooks from now on!

Rob
Q for all.
