Default Famous Dave's?

There is a Famous Dave's BBQ opening (Monday is the grand opening) a mile or so
from my place. Looks pretty good so far. They cook over real hickory.

Anybody ever eaten at one of these? And was it good?
Thanks
Dave

Went to a Famous Dave's in Tucson a couple of times last winter. We liked it
for pork, ribs, burnt ends. Brisket was dry. Sides OK.

Where is your Famous Dave's located?

John

If ya don't feel like cooking yourself its not to bad--sometimes---have had
some decent spares there--their brisket comes to the store already
cooked--and taste like it.. There sides are good---in fact have been known
to order the bread pudding first so I had room for the whole piece! And the
beer is usually cold

Thanks for that. Sounds like the bread pudding is good from the thread and the
que is sorta ok. I'll give them a try and see what I think.

According to to a trade publication I subscribe to, Famous Dave's has been
wrapped into a corporate chain... can't remember which one at the moment.
Expansion is now the primary goal as the corporation wishes to take
advantage of the burgeoning barbecue craze that's sweeping the land. I've
eaten at two in the last two years. Mediocre compared to the many of the
real 'Q joints I've frequented, and nowhere near what I do at home. It's
better than a McRib, though.

I noticed there's one in the Great Mall of America (Minneapolis).

Mall BBQ. How much better can it get?

The origianal store is on Round Lake in Hayward Wisconsin and it is pretty
good. My understanding is that they went public and the chain almost went
under because they were expanding too rapidly. Dave Anderson (Famous Dave)
is now into politics and I don't know how much he has to do with the
operations anymore.

I ate at one in Chicago a couple of yrs. ago. Very mediocre. Craze seemed to be
over the amount of food served on a garbage can lid.

Isaac Hayes had bought one or more of their places and was turning them into
live blues clubs. They are definitely corporate chain minded with about 90
stores and another 150 or so planned.

He don't.... it's now up to Burger King, or Pepsico (KFC, taco Bell, et al),
or whatever company bought 'em out.

Yeah, the garbage can lid is their gimmick and they are adding live music to
a lot of their places. I like their Georgia Mustard on the chopped pork but
I think I've been able to successfully recreate my own that I've convinced
myself is better. They also sell packaged stuff in the frozen food
aisle....next to the white castle hamburgers if I'm not mistaken.

I have not heard Famous Dave's was bought out. The corporation is
located here in the Twin Cities. I do try and keep up on the local
economy/business news and if that had happened, I would have thought it
would have been in the papers.

He is now head of the BIA and that is presumably taking up his time.
Though I don't know how involved he was in the day to day operations
prior to his BIA appointment.

BTW, my last rack of ribs from Famous Dave's was my last rack of ribs
from Famous Dave's. Need I say more :-).

Happy Q'en,
BBQ

Tried to get back ribs at Jack Stack last Thursday night, and they were sold
out. Dang. So I had that big hunk o'meat (crown rib or something) and it was
just heaven.

To paraphrase the Detroit sports radio guys, To HELL with Famous Daves.
(Their version involved the Lakers.)
