I've got a natural gas hookup on my deck outside. I'm considering the Weber
Genesis Silver A Premium Natural Gas grill. The questions I have a 1. Is natural gas better than LP? Does it burn hotter, cooler? 2. I'll need to run a pipe about 15 feet to where I'll need to have the grill "plug in", any considerations when running this line if I buy? (It'll be running under the deck) Thanks in advance. -- Mike |

Natural gas, or methane, has less BTU/volume than propane or C3H8, and
requires greater flow through a larger gas line and jet than does propane. I think you can get to the same BTU with both though it's a bit harder with natural gas than with propane gas. I would assume Weber has done the proper homework. Call them and ask them. They have great customer service. I have a propane Genesis B, and would probably go for natural gas in a second just to avoid that disgusting propane tank. I don't think the distance of the line is a worry as long as you use the right diameter conduit. It would be nice to be able to move the grill about a bit as conditions require. Go for it, and good luck with your endpoint. Kent Mike Rinken wrote: I've got a natural gas hookup on my deck outside. I'm considering the Weber Genesis Silver A Premium Natural Gas grill. I did this with my now ageing Weber 3000...works like a charm. You will
need to get replacement orifices from Weber. I would be sure to put a shutoff valve at the end of the pipe, and be sure to get the proper hose and couplings. I use a hose long enough to permit some movement of the whole grill, as required. Good practice is to shut off the gas at the valve _before_ the hose when not using the grill. With the correct orifices I seem to get a bit higher heat than with the propane setup. Bill "Kent H." wrote in message ... Thanks for the note Bill. I have been thinking about doing this for some
time. Kent Bill Beeman wrote: I did this with my now ageing Weber 3000...works like a charm. You will need to get replacement orifices from Weber. (It'll be running under the deck) Temperature wise they will be about the same. Convenience is a huge factor and if I had natural gas you can be sure I'd be hooked to it. I don't know about your local, but I'd have to take the grill off the wheels and bolt it to the deck. You are not allowed to have a "portable" device connected to a gas line. As for running under the deck, can you walk under it or is it close to the ground? You don't want people hanging the clothes line from the gas pipe. Ed http://pages.cthome.net/edhome |

It takes longer to heat your grill with natural gas. (had both) It does not burn
quite as hot. But it is still way better than hauling butane bottles around. There is a 12' flex hose available that you can run under your deck that will allow a quick connect at the grill. I have a natural gas LYNX grill with the 12' flex hose running off a stub out from a hot water heater on 1/2 inch line...and it works great! larE On Tue, 04 May 2004 02:25:11 +0000, Mike Rinken wrote: I've got a natural gas hookup on my deck outside.
