hi: Just started using my brand new Polder remote thermometer I got for
Xmas. (since I'm in Toronto, there was little Q'ing this winter.) I was grilling and wanted some gorgeous fillets to be done Pittsburgh, so i programmed the thing for 125f. When it went off, the left hand side showed 36.1, presumably centigrade, but well below 125f. Then it switch to HI instead of a temperature. Please, what gives? Puzzled, Canada Mike -- personal replies can be sent to me, remove the spam stopper from my address. |

It almost sounds as if you had a temperature spike above 350F, and burned out the probe. Dave Sounds like you guessed it, Dave (nice to see ya again). Canada Mike, most, if not all Polders have a max temperature on the probes of 350-375°. If you used it while grilling, it's likely that you exceeded the limit and fried the probe. Feel the cable and see if there are any hard, stiff places (as opposed to flexible) in it, especially where it was inside your cooker. If there are, then your probe is dead. Jack Curry |

If the tip of the probe touches the metal grill in your cooker and it is hotter than 350 it will destruct. Besides that it won't work any more ...and it will be ruined...kaput...done for...Outta here. A new probe is in order. I have a Taylor and have been there already. You can probably order one from ebay for $15 plus $9 for shipping. Taylor sells them for $5 and free shipping.I ordered on line and bought two. I have been told that the Taylor probe works fine in the polder unit, but you might be able to order from polder just as cheaply . Jack |

Thanks to all of you. Not, of course, the answer I was hoping for, but it
makes sense. The grill was really hot! As for grilling ti TOn n the winter, normally I do - right through. But this winter was so cold the back door ro my deck froze solid shut, and I couldn't get out there. Thanks to all, Canada Mike |
