"Confining a de-beaked hen in a battery cage is more than a moral
crime; it is a living sign of our failure to recognize the blessing of God in creation." -- Rev. Dr. Andrew Linzey "To shut your mind, heart and imagination from the sufferings of others is to begin slowly, but inexorably, to die. Those Christians who close their minds and hearts to the cause of animal welfare, and the evils it seeks to combat, are ignoring the Fundamental spiritual teachings of Christ himself." -- John Baker, Bishop of Salisbury "Without the perfect sympathy with the animals around them, no gentleman's education, no Christian education, could be of any possible use." -- John Ruskin "And if thy heart be straight with God, then every creature shall be to thee a mirror of life and a book of holy doctrine, for there is no creature so little or so vile, but that sheweth and representeth the goodness of God." -- Thomas à Kempis "Every creature is a word of God." -- Meister Eckhart "God brings millions of flowers to bloom without force." -- Wayne Dyer "God loved the birds and invented trees. Man loved the birds and invented cages." -- Jacques Deval "I tremble for my species when I reflect that God is just." -- Thomas Jefferson "If I'm lucky enough to get to heaven I might find that God is a beaver or a burro. What a sad world it would be if only the two-legged were here." -- Cleveland Amory "It ill becomes us to invoke in our daily prayers the blessings of God, the compassionate, if we in turn will not practice elementary compassion toward our fellow creatures." -- Mahatma Gandhi "It is strange to hear people talk of Humanitarianism, who are members of societies for the prevention of cruelty to children and animals, and who claim to be God-loving men and women, but who, nevertheless, encourage by their patronage the killing of animals merely to gratify the cravings of appetite." -- Otoman Zar-Adusht Ha'nish "Kindness to all God's creatures is an absolute rock-bottom necessity if peace and righteousness are to prevail." -- Sir Wilfred Grenfell "Love animals: God has given them the rudiments of thought and joy untroubled. Do not trouble their joy, don't harass them, don't deprive them of their happiness, don't work against God's intent. Man, do not pride yourself on superiority to animals; they are without sin, and you, with your greatness, defile the earth by your appearance on it, and leave the traces of your foulness after you -- alas, it is true of almost every one of us!" -- Fyodor Dostoyevsky "Not to hurt our humble brethren (the animals) is our first duty to them, but to stop there is not enough. We have a higher mission--to be of service to them whenever they require it... If you have men who will exclude any of God's creatures from the shelter of compassion and pity, you will have men who will deal likewise with their fellow men." -- St. Francis of Assisi "Some say vegetarianism is an alternative diet, but it is the original diet, the plan designed by God." -- James Marcus "The moral duty of man consists of imitating the moral goodness and beneficence of God, manifested in the creation, toward all His creatures." -- Thomas Paine "We are all God's creatures -- that we pray to God for mercy and justice while we continue to eat the flesh of animals that are slaughtered on our account is not consistent." -- Isaac Bashevis Singer courtesy of http://www.geocities.com/passtheveggies |

You also think if you eat only vegetables, you're not killing other animals? How about when you drive your car? When you walk down the street? And for the record, if you have any interest in what Jesus has to say : Luke:5:4: Now when he had left speaking, he said unto Simon, Launch out into the deep, and let down your nets for a draught. 5: And Simon answering said unto him, Master, we have toiled all the night, and have taken nothing: nevertheless at thy word I will let down the net. 6: And when they had this done, they inclosed a great multitude of fishes: and their net brake. 7: And they beckoned unto their partners, which were in the other ship, that they should come and help them. And they came, and filled both the ships, so that they began to sink. Jesus instructed the fishermen to cast their nets and helped them get several boatfuls of fish. He also fed the hungry fish and bread. And I hope you don't think them fish didn't suffer when they were taken out of the water. But it was not the intention of Jesus to harm fish, or any other creature...his only intention was to feed the hungry and abate their hunger. But i do make a distinction between some animals...I could not eat a dog, I treat them like pets or family. I don't care for cats but wouln't eat them either because I think it's gross...I've been raised with acceptance for eating cow, chicken, fish, pork, goat, shrimp, crab and some other shellfish. But not once when I eat them do I think -- "Ahhhh I delight in the suffering of these creatures!" I eat to quell my hunger. Period. If God didn't intend for us to eat animals or fish, then he would not have made us to suffer from hunger -- neither the the other animals in the world. If God never intended for animals to be eaten, then it should begin with the animals themselves...and to think that animals aren't obeying God when they eat each other is just pure ignorance and stupidity. There's something called the ECO system, and if animals didn't eat other animals there would likely be no room left for human beings. courtesy of http://www.geocities.com/passtheveggies |
