Default Smoke with Elm?

Can I smoke with elm? I know we used to burn it in the fireplace all the
time.

Thanks,
Johnny in Huntsville

Not unless you're a dumb ass. Sorry, didn't mean to jump your ass. It'll
make a shitty fire and a lot of ash.

Been there, done that, in Kansas. Just in the fireplace. We didn't have
oak or any other hard wood for that matter.

Well.............I reckon Kansas ain't got nothin' happening in the way of
barbecue then.........bein's how they don't got the wood to make it.

I concede, the part of Kansas you were in don't have BBQ wood. Evidently
they're overrun with it somewhere or they wouldn't have the KCBS.

Back to the subject.....elm burns. That's all I can say about it that's
good. You'll never get a coal out of it if you're firing direct, and the
stink ain't worth it if your doing smoke roasting.

If you're a yankee, use white oak, red oak, hickory, wild cherry......any
fruit bearing tree.

If you're so blessed as to live in Florida, use Live Oak, **** Oak, Water
Oak, Blackjack Oak, ............anything with the tiny leathery leaves on it
will work just fine...........as long as it ain't a Magnolia.

You're excluding Magnolia twice...it ain't got tiny (any kind of) leaves on
it.
Maybe you've got a reason for twice? It do stink when it burns.

If your magnolia ain't got any leaves on it, it's dead.

Sorry about your luck,

Yessir, it was only mildly different than the one I read from a card my
lovely Mother showed me when I was in 2nd grade.

I can't remember what the Hell we were talking about last night concerning
magnolia leaves, but if your's has 'em, good deal. Merry Christmas.
