Don't know who posted the link to www.usenet-replayer.com, where you
can view an archive of posts to alt.binaries.food. I appreciate the
link, since my newsserver doesn't carry any binary groups. But the
site served up two pop-ups as I left it, and then WinPatrol caught it
installing something called SearchUpgrade33.exe (I think) in my
StartUp group. Ad-Aware then found three entries in my registry key
for a data miner called Squire.

Even after leaving the site and while sitting on a site I KNOW doesn't
serve up any pop-ups (because I built it), the pop-ups kept coming.

I just checked that site and had no problems or pop-ups. Although I don't
use IE and I have zone alarm running to block any silly stuff.

Kevin-

I posted the link. As far as pop-ups go...I never got any before like
the ones you describe. I ran Ad-Aware and didn't find
SearchUpgrade33.exe or anything other than some ad tracking cookies.

FWIW: I am now running the pop-up blocker that is part of the google
toolbar. Although, I have viewed the site in question without the
toolbar in the past I've never had the pop-up issue you mention.

I've got nothing to do with the site I referred to previously. If it
has (somehow) hosed your computer I am sorry. This is the first time
I've heard of that site doing anything malicious.

Rob-
Q' for all so long as it's not parbolied ribs
