"Ken Sternberg" wrote in message om... I'm heading to San Antonio later this week and would love to try some great barbeque(cue) there. I've read about County Line, but it's a chain and I'm looking for something more authentic. An overpriced chain to boot. They started here though. Casey's is ok. If you can, try to go out Loop 1604 in SE Bexar county to a little town called Adkins and eat at Texas Pride, 3rd generation pitmaster. On 410 & Harry Wurzbach is the Barbecue Station. -Hound |

Well, I just got back from my trip and can safely report that County
Line is some of the worst bbq I've ever eaten. The sauce on the ribs had a rubber-like taste, the brisket was tough and bland. It may not be caveman simple to make good barbeque, but even a little more effort would have produced much better food. |

Your CL's must not be as good as the 'Originals' here in Austin. The County Line's in Houston had to get a step ladder to reach mediocrity. The one on Westheimer closed rapidly while the one on 1960 hung on. A restaurant is only as good as the management and CL expanded WAAAAYYY beyond their management talent. Too bad. The original in Austin is really good. -sw |

I vote for the salt lick also but it's closer to Austin. I know you can
sample them in the Austin airport. Don't know if the they are in the San Antonio Airport. "Rob" wrote in message om... (Ken Sternberg) wrote in message . com... Try, The Salt Lick. Rob Q' fer all so long as it's not parbolied ribs. |

I thought that Bob's Smokehouse on Roland Ave. had some really good food. Been around over 30 years IIRC. Not a very fancy place but some great Q. Just my .02 worth.
