Okay, so as many of you know, I gifted Desideria with the Lodge
Sportsman's Grill--which is effectively a good-quality hibachi. Steaks, burgers--those lend themselves to the high direct heat style of cooking that's the primary methodology available with such a grill. What else? Anyone got recipes, or know of good recipe sources? The large majority of grilling recipes/information I'm finding is oriented toward grills that'll do indirect. Not all, of course, but many--and even a number of the 'grilling with direct heat' ideas assume a lid so's to get heat all 'round the food. I was, frankly, rather surprised at how little I found when I went looking on the 'net. Any and all ideas & info is appreciated. Steak, chops, shrimp, mussels, chiles, that kinda stuff. Indirect goes in the smoker here. Not much help. SBD ;-( Direct is what I want to know, man! shrimp, huh? (and someone I know will like the idea of chiles...) There's tons of grillin' ideas under that title. Way too much to list in a newsgroup post. Most of the far east and middle east countries grill as a normal everyday food prep procedure. -- Brick(Youth is wasted on young people) |

I use it for high heat searing of steaks and burgers. I've got a WSM for barbecue and a gas grill for chicken and sausages so I can use the Lodge for what it's best at. Loaded with lump and going full blast it produces an awesome sear on a steak. Cam |

How about "How To Grill"? Both have good information and recipes for grilling. Try the library or a bookstore. BOB |

I've got a bullet smoker--gasser, which one day I'll replace either with an offset, kamado-type ceramic, or WSM--in no particular order of preference, save that I could burn actual wood in an offset. We did some very good 1 1/2" or 2" New Yorks for the Lodge's maiden voyage, and we were very impressed. She did burgers last night and loved 'em. Well, I personally have only two 'outdoor' cooking books--and neither is much about grilling. _Smoke and Spice_, and _Sublime Smoke_. I think Beautiful has the Raichlen book (I know she has one of his) and at least one more grilling book--but they seem to be heavily oriented toward gas grills and charcoal grills with lids. I've found some very interesting links that started with the Satay search. Desideria |

Actually, I don't have any Raichlen books, dear. I've looked over his website but don't own any of his stuff yet. Good suggestion, BOB! Desideria |
