Good program. And it *is* about barbecue. They spent some time
toward the end of the show with some of the very interesting pits
Klose has made. Like the exact scale model 777...

Let's see...segments on the first Weber kettles, on Traeger, on bbq
contests, sauces--and of course they just had to spend some time on
Kingsford. (mumble)

Well, I found the Kingsford segment pretty amusing. They sure
downplayed the coal content - they spent a lot more time showing
us the steaming compost piles of waste-wood, and really glossed-
over the coal, lime and petroleum coke content.

But, all in all, it was a good episode. It was amusing to see
Original Juan's factory, I like some of their Pain sauces.

It's supposed to be available via iTunes.
I don't use iTunes, so I can't link to it, though.

THIS IS A SIG LINE; NOT TO BE TAKEN SERIOUSLY!

Al Gore's son was pulled over by cops in Southern
California Tuesday going one hundred miles an hour
in his Prius. He had marijuana, Valium, Xanax and
Vicodin in the car. The Los Angeles Times headline
read, Prius Goes One Hundred Miles an Hour.

I was surprised they even mentioned the coal. Did they even
mention lump?

Not as part of the Kingsford segment; the program was
pretty comprehensive, though, covering lump, wood, briquettes
and gas.

They didn't actually mention petroleum coke in the
Kingsford segment, but, living near refineries, I've
heard people mention the 10-ton loads of petroleum
coke they've send to the briquette factory.

As for briquettes, the Original Charcoal Company's
Rancher lump briquettes are really the cat's meow.
Great for grilling, and easy to work with for longer
cooks, and fairly cheap.

I do use iTunes, and it's not there yet. Last episode of Modern Marvels is
the Golden Gate Bridge.

BTW, iTunes is completely free. The only reason you need an iPod is if you
want to take all that music, video, etc., in your pocket instead of on your
PC.

And, no, I don't work for Apple!

I used them for the first time last weekend. They seem to loose
the bulk of the heat quickly, unlike lump. The flame spreads
quicker when doing the minion or side burning method (which I
use). I'll need to work them some more.

I didn't have either problem myself; they burned pretty
much like a load of Lazzari's for me. I filled the firebox
on my offset with a couple chimney-loads of the briquettes,
then started another 2/3 chimney of the briquettes, dumped
'em on top.

The load *did* burn a little hotter at first than lump,
so I had to watch the damper more than I usually do in the
first 30 minutes or so, but then they settled-down and
went for nearly 6 hours at 240-270; I did a couple
racks of spares. When I pulled the spares out, the
cook chamber was running around 240 but didn't have a
lot left.

I've also had a fair bit of fines/small chunks in last my
bag or two of Lazzari's, so they size might be an issue.

That whole afternoon was all about food on the History Channel.
That's all I watched that day. I think Kili did, too ;-)

I did watch a good deal of HST that day. Good programming!
