Default Cheaper version of Foodsaver bags....

Hi all, hope everyone is well and q'ing like crazy!! We have a new
toy....finally....a foodsaver. I remember y'all had posted a few
years ago a much lower priced place to get the bags, or continuous
rolls for Foodsavers. Could someone please either email me or answer
here where, etc. I love this machine and I know it will be a great
asset to our q'ing. Of course with the K it is hard to wreck
anything, but we managed to burn the crud out of pizza the first
time. Our only failure in about 4 years of K'ing.
TIA for the info, Nan & Rich

(hello to a fellow Kamado owner?)

Anyway, your best bet is to search google's groups search engine and
look for "foodsaver bags" or similar. There's been a number of threads
on this over the last few years.. We're still looking to replace our
dying FoodSaver (it's around 10 years old) and haven't decided on what
the replacement will be yet -- but I'm leaning towards a MagicVac
or the MT500 (by Omcan if I recall).. Both are much higher priced than
what I bought the original one for -- but both appear to be better made,
particularly the MT500..

You're remembering Sorbent Systems, which can no longer
legally
sell the Tilia bags because of patent issues.

Sorbent is again selling channel bags garenteed to work in
the

Throw away your machine. Get double Zip Lock bags from Costco.
When your spouse or SO isn't looking, put the food to be saved in and suck
the air out. As
long as you don't exhale you won't infect. The bugs will be killed by the
freezer anyway.
Store in a frost free freezer. The latter should be done with any sealing
process.

Freezers don't really kill all "bugs". They may slow some down a bit,
and they may kill most parasites, but many molds and bacteria freeze
quite well, and will happily thaw to their "as good as fresh" condition.

As for only using a frost-free freezer, in my experience it won't make
any difference what kind of freezer you use if the package is properly
vacuum sealed. As long as the temp is low enough and stable enough,
there won't be a problem. Actually, some frost-free freezers have
pretty wide temp fluctuations because of their defrost cycles, and can
cause quality problems in stored foods.

Zip locks, double zipper or not, *still* let air in and will not
be "vacuum sealed" for long. You must be using everything in
your freezer within 2 weeks and are never moving things around.

Frost free or not.

Hey all I just found this caveat on their website re the rolld of
bags:
WE ARE NOT CURRENTLY SHIPPING ANY CHANNEL ROLLS EVEN FOR MagicVac® or
VacMaster® machines. We know that MagicVac® users found our rolls to
work better in your machines. We apologize for the inconvenience.

Thanks for the help, I'll find em somewhere!!

You sure? Last time I tried to order VIA their website, I got an
email saying exactly that: WE ARE NOT CURRENTLY SHIPPING ANY
CHANNEL ROLLS EVEN FOR MagicVac...

Tilia is the only one allowed to sell them, supposedly. That
notice has been in effect for almost 5 years now.

No, didn't try. Just noticed that the announcement was on the roll page
only, not the bag page. (damn lawyers!)

You can try here. They manufacture the rolls and bags
for Tilia, "FoodSaver". They are currently listing prices
for a variety of bag sizes, but they have a moritorium on
rolls.
