What type of stores typically carry smoke chips (apple, etc)? I can't imagine these would be carried by stores like walmart etc. The big box stores like Home Depot and Lowes. Farm supply stores like D&B Supply. Rite-Aid drugstores (they useta, anyway). Sporting goods stores with a hefty inventory of camping and hunting gear. |

Most any place that has grill will have chips and chunks. If you own a power saw, you just cut up some hardwood tree branches or a couple of firewood logs you stole from the neighbor's wood pile. |

Just make sure the wood has dried/seasoned. Never use green wood as the byproducts will make the food inedible. -- DougW |

I've never had that problem and I've taken branches from apple tree to saw to smoker inside of 30 minutes. Just don't overdo the smoke and have it smolder to slow. |

Most places that sell grills and grill accessories will have them, and
many grocery stores that sell charcoal will carry some as well. But these places often have only hickory and/or mesquite. Apple, cherry, maple, pecan, etc. are rarely found (at least in my area) except at the dedicated grill places like Barbeques Galore. Bob =============================== In article , says... Let's dispell this myth of using green wood. Danny Gaulden does it, I used to do it (no good wood source here in Florida) and you do it too, Ed. It'll nasty up yer groceries if you let it smolder and steam, but if you're a good enough fireman to make it burn, carry on. -- TFM® Zephyrhills (still almost 70 degrees) Florida |
