I get my "sea salt" from Sun Harvest.
It's called "Real Salt".

Comes in pre-prepared salt shakers and a bulk 1 lb. bag.

It's pretty much all I use anymore. ;-)

And fwiw, I get my BBQ either from home or Fuschaks now that they've
re-opened.

I use a combination of post oak and mesquite fire wood.

That's an understatement... ;-)

Wow ingenious, how original, ever try to come up with your own material?

I'll give your suggestions all the consideration they deserve just as
soon as you figure out how to punctuate an English sentence.

Don't have to with austin.food, only when someone cross posts to it from a
more infantile list.

However, your suggestion has merit. 'bye! *flush*

Good company BBQ in Houston does a smoked duck.
Haven't had it in a while but I remember it being really good.

FWIW, the smoked duck breasts are quite yummy.

The only smoked duck I saw were cryovac'd musgovian breasts. And
at the prices I saw, it's no wonder they mustgo.

I'm having spam issues and the "removespam" address was being rejected
by a moderated newsgroup that is important to me.

OTOH, I might keep morphing just to annoy you. ;-)
You are making it a sport......

Technically maybe.... ;-) But it flows well.
Seriously, I like it and the flavor is slightly different from regular
salt. I guess I like the whole concept of "trace minerals".

When all is said and done, ALL salt comes from the seas, be they modern
or prehistoric deposits? ;-)

I'll have to look when I go back, but I recall seeing bins of different
kinds of coarse salt, sold in bulk. It might be fun to get some
different incarnations of salt and see how they work on foods.

Mm, never tried "bulk salts" unless they were bath salts. :-)

I'll have to look at that myself.

I get the "Real Salt" brand from Sun Harvest. If Whole Foods has bulk
eating salts in bins, that might be interesting!

Thanks!

Next time I go back, I think I'll lecture them on the danger of
carcinogens in smoked meat. Perhaps start a petition. Call PETA,
too.

Don't forget the dangers of second hand pit smoke.

I also picked up a 'vegetarian ficelle' on the way out - on
display between the pizza and sandwich bars. It's a thin, 7"
piece of baguette (ficelle) with goat cheese, kalamata olive
tapenade, and artichoke hearts. It was better than the BBQ, and a
"steal" (for Whole Foods) at only $1.99.

I'm also suspicious of "vegetarian" food.

And the very worst is "vegetarian" steaks, burgers, hot dogs etc.
You want "vegetarian" eat an heirloom tomato from somebody's garden!
Not some nasty soy product trying to emulate a hot dog!

Although there's nothing wrong with vegetables or well prepared food that
happens to be meatless,

EXACTLY!!

it seems that the label brings out the worst in many
"cooks."

EXACTLY!!

I made the grave error of attending the city's Green Festival two
years ago and of the food samples handed out I can't recall a single one
that wasn't at least borderline nasty.

The Ficelle does sound good despite the "vegetarian" tag, with a good
balance of flavors and textures.
