Got it replaced, and that one lasted about two. Lots of similar tales told in the Customer Review section at the end of that URL (pronounced "Earl"). Enough of them that I'm even hesitant to buy a couple with a freebie $15 gift certificate I need to cash in by tomorrow night. Plus also, take a look at the following review. If it wasn't written by a shill, I'll eat my (unsmoked) hat. Notice especially the "solution" offered to the problem of b0rken probes: Why, just buy two extras! ************** From prime rib in the oven to steaks on the grill, this gadget guarantees your meats will be perfectly cooked every time. We do a lot of entertaining, often cooking on the outdoor grills, on the indoor grills, in the oven and on the stove at the same time. With a lot of people at our home and a LOT of food to manage, we sometimes get distracted. This tiny gadget guarantees our meats will be perfectly cooked every time. We simply set the thermometer to the type of meat we are cooking (beef, chicken, etc.) and enter the degree of doneness we desire (well, medium, rare). We can walk away and 'forget it', assured that the remote will signal us when the meat is done. Before we purchased this item, we'd have to open the oven or grill to insert a standardthermometer, thereby losing precious heat only to discover the meat wasn't done. The NexxTech Remote BBQ Thermometer allows us to continuously monitor the temperature of the meat without opening the door. My husband says this is the best gift he receivedlast Christmas. He was very disappointed when, after dropping the sensor on the hard floor, it no longer worked. So....I purchased two more. This is a must-have for the busy cook or occassional backyard griller. ***************** -- If we could live without passion maybe we'd know some kind of peace, but we would be hollow. Empty rooms, shuttered and dank. Without passion we'd be truly dead. --David Boreanaz as Angel in "Buffy The Vampire Slayer" |

Well, since I tried ordering it 7!!! times and each time I hit 'go to the next step' (which should have been 'go enter your info') I got 'you have removed all items from your shopping cart' as well as a constant 'notify me when it's available message'.... -denny- -- The test of courage comes when we are in the minority. What is it with offshore digital thermometers? I had a NexxTech wired
one. The display for the timer was twice the size as the display for the temp. The probe was close to a foot long, with no curve. That just doesn't work with a WSM, unless you can drop it in from the top vent and neatly get the correct spot in the thigh of the turkey... My current one, a Canadian Tire cheapie, is a wireless job with the pre-programmed meat temps. If they are going to cater to bbq types, make a programmed temp of 190 for pork! The thing transmits every second. If anyone on the design team knew about bbqing they would have set that to read every minute. If any design weenies are looking through this site, here is what we need; Transmitter that can sit out in the rain, Current temp display on the transmitter Big freakin' display of the current temp on the remote, Ability to set min & max alarms, Ability to choose a beep or a blinky-light for the alarm. 4' of wire between the probe and the jack. Spare probe! Reg wrote: jimmyz wrote: Thought some of ya'll one like to know about this it online and in the stores. http://www.circuitcity.com/ccd/produ...age=befree&c=1 Mine broke in about an hour. Wasn't impressed. Then I checked their uwaves and found a GE 1 cu. ft, 1,100 watt unit for $65! Picked it up today to replace my 30 year old, $400, Amana, which just died. Thanks, jimmyz! -- Nick. Mine was in a box with other junk at the cash register and it took them a long time to find it. It did show up in the computer inventory list. -- Brick |
