This recipe is kind of like the candy made from brown sugar is cooked on the
stove top and drizzled on the cake. My 91 year old father's mother made this for him and it is my present to him on his favorite angel food cake if some one has an idea. I found only on such recipe and it was with egg whites and that is not what he is describing as it seems to be more like the 7 minute frosting that I remember. What he is describing is more like a candy where it is hardened. Any ideas. I need soon as the cake is ready and waiting for this frosting. |

Brown Sugar Frosting
With its creamy caramel flavor, you'll find lots of uses for this frosting. a.. 1 lb. Light brown sugar (16-ounce package or about 2-1/4 cups plus 2 teaspoons b.. ˝ C Butter c.. 5 oz. Evaporated milk (1 small can) d.. Dash of salt e.. ˝ t Baking powder f.. ˝ t Vanilla extract In a heavy saucepan, bring to a boil the brown sugar, butter, milk and salt, stirring frequently (see Notes, below. Once you have a full, rolling boil, cook for 3 minutes, stirring constantly. Remove from heat, and add the baking powder and vanilla. Beat, right in the saucepan, with a portable electric mixer, for 6 or 7 minutes, or until thickened. Working quickly, drizzle the frosting over the cake. Makes about 2 cups. Enjoy: Chef R. W.
