Pizza?

Hi again guys. I am new to being a vegetarian as I said earlier and was
eating some pizza the other day. My friend told me it was pointless to
order pizza meatless since the sauce is meat sauce and has meat mixed
into it. Is this true of most restaurants like Pizza Inn, Pizza Hut,
Papa John's, etc? If so what other foods have "hidden" meat?
Many food outlet web sites have nutritional info. Papa John's has an
FAQ that details ingredients (no animal fats in sauce or crust). They
go as far as to detail animal-derived enzimes in the grated parmesan
shaker cheese! Pizza Hut mentions "marinara sauce" -- if they added
meat, they'd probably advertise it. You can e-mail or call most places
with specific questions. I mean, a central info site. Local shops
pretty much just open cans.
It depends on what you mean by "hidden meat." Some *do* object to
every animal-derived ingredient. Gelatin, for example, animal rennet
used in cheese-makinig, or certain flavoring mixes. In that case, best
to eat out only at strictly vegetarian restaurants and learn to read
ingredient labels very carefully.
