LOL At least they did not cost 8K, like the drapes that covered the
statue during Ashcroft's press conferences. Nobody knows how to waste
money like the gubmint.
I had a friend who prided himself on being apolitical. I'd always try
to get him to vote, but the thing that did it was that he tried to buy
a bottle of wine on a Sunday. Ashcroft had repeatedly vetoed the
repeal of the Blue Laws, banning Sunday alcohol sales. When he was
replaced by a Democratic governor (Mel Carnahan), my friend was soon
able to buy wine on Sunday. Eventually, Mel Carnahan ran against
Ashcroft for Ashcroft's Senate seat. Carnahan died a few weeks before
the election, but his name remained on the ballot, and our state's new
Democratic governor promised to appoint his wife to the seat if Mel
won the race.
Well, Ashcroft lost to a dead man, and one of those votes was my
buddy's. Soon after, Bush made him Attorney General. Now, my friend
always votes.
