Default Potato/onion Storeage?

Minteeleaf surprised us with

Potatoes need to "breathe" or they'll rot.
No airtight barrels. Also, do not store potatoes
near fresh onions. They make each other spoil.


So far I agree with you.

I store both in the fridge, well apart.
Both spoil much faster when exposed to heat & light.


Last bit is correct, but in my experience a fridge is too cold. Just store
them, both onions and potatoes in a cool and dark place. Keep onions and
potatoes well apart.
