Default Amana refrig.

I have a friend who had an Amana frig as well. She finally returned it
becaue she couldn't get it to work properly. I had an Amana washer that was
top of the line and had nothing but problems with it. Just bought a
Whirlpool frig and so far so good....

Has anyone had a problem with an Amana bottom freezer refrig,? We bought

one
a week ago and it cooled for an hour or so and quit. Maytag has bought
Amana and so the Maytag man came and said they forgot to put freon in at

the
factory. OK, all is well. Now 2 days later it has quit again. We have

bought
lots of refrigerators over the years but never one like this. Has anyone
else had a problem with this co.?

The repair person who came out had no way to know if the factory failed

to
charge the system with freon. Since it cooled for an hour, it had to have
some refrigerant. All appliances are tested at the factory, so it had to
have passed the quality control tests before it was shipped. After the
service tech put more refrigerant in your system it cooled for a while
longer. Simple logic indicates that there is a leak. The leak could have
been the result of a manufacturing or material fault or could have

occurred
in shipping. Your dealer may have accidentally damaged the unit.

Here is the basic warranty as listed on the Amana website:
Full warranty one year parts and labor
Five years limited warranty on sealed system components and interior

liners

Your dealer should be able to fix the problem or refer you to an

authorized
service center. Make sure that you tell them that you won't settle for
someone coming out and putting more refrigerant in the system. I would

sit
down right now and start a journal listing what has occurred so far. Make
sure you list the date and time of phone calls, who you talked to, what

they
said, and what actions were taken. You do have some rights based on the
fact that you used a credit card. The terms are generally printed in very
small type in the agreement you signed and may be on the back of your
statement. You have a limited time to dispute the charges so make sure

you
look into it ASAP. Consumers also have rights in most states. You

state's
Attorney General's office most likely has a consumer protection division.
You could contact them for specifics.

Frankly, I would ask the dealer to take the refrigerator back and exchange
it for an identical or better model at no expense to you. After all, you
have been terribly inconvenienced. They sold you a defective unit. If

they
won't take it back, then I would tell them that you are going to dispute

the
charge with the credit card company. You have a right to expect a working
appliance. It doesn't matter what they put on your receipt. I would go

to
the dealer and talk to a manager face-to-face - it will be harder for them
to ignore you in person than on the phone. If the person you talk to
doesn't give you a satisfactory answer, then work your way up the ladder.
