I cannot find anything online that states how long sesame oil will last
except that it doesn't go rancid easily. I cannot find a www. for Assai
company to write them as to what their number on the top of the can
"05077K"
represents, as there is no "use by" or Manufacturing date.

I used to call manufacturers about their product codes all the
time. In my experience, 5 or 7 is the last digit of the year it
was made.

If it's toasted sesame oil, pitch it. If it's refined sesame
oil, it may still be good depending on how it was stored.

I'd probably pitch it anyway.

Especially if you can't remember the last time you used it. A
good test would be to see if the lid has become fused to the can.
And if not, get a good whiff.

If it passes those tests, I'd probably still pitch it.

I took it out of the trash can to have a look and a smell. I had had it
stored it in a zip-lock in a cool place. It has stamped, as well, JIAEIA
on the top. Who knows what that means? Maybe the plant.
From the 05077K emboldened on the front in heavy black letters, I'm
assuming maybe that it was packed in the year 2005; possibly. But it
'sniffed' well.

It is 100% pure sesame oil, 1 qt+1pt. large can. I bought it hoping DH
would OK using it. He likes adding the toasted sesame oil (usually in the
little bottles) at the end of the dish, and toasted is definitely much
stronger. I see from some of my previous posts that I got some good
information regarding the difference. But everytime I asked whether he
wanted olive or olive/butter or coconut oil used, it never was sesame.

I just read in a book how nutritionally-good sesame oil is, so I think I'll
purchase again a 'smaller' can. I'll make sure to take note of the numbers
on the front.

Thanks, sw,
Dee
