Ron Lel
The traditional, possibly more constructive advice ...
has been to make use of the "distribution" field when
posting the news article. That has been used
commonly in the past to limit its geographical distribution. ...
Local source pointed out that distribution limits, though provided for in
article format, are ineffective in recent years (of the post-HTML newsgroup
world).
I am still trying to make amends for doing the same thing Ron Lel did, in
the past. An advertisement appeared internationally, giving only local
phone numbers in New Jersey (US):
SKIS 4/SALE
and I responded, more or less like Ron Lel. The ad is still there, in the
archives, along with my response (21 years ago exactly).
As a further note, here in the US we have named many places to honor those
elsewhere. A few offhand examples from memory are New Jersey, New York, New
London, Boston, Plymouth, Syracuse, Ithaca, New Orleans, New Iberia
(Louisiana), Athens (Georgia), Canton (Ohio), Paris (Texas), Vienna
(Virginia), Moscow (Idaho), Melbourne (Florida), and Brisbane (California).
These namings betoken a nontrivial element of respect.
Cheers -- Max
