Drape (loose-ish) the surface in plastic wrap, grate, and then peel
the wrap off. It works pretty well, and you don't have to scrape the
ginger out of the grater.

I have used the exploded side of a box grater (my ginger graters have been
missing for a long time), but have never done the plastic wrap thing.
Doesn't some of the plastic wrap end up in the ginger?
