Well, Duh!... if "quite salty" is the *only* taste you perceive then obviously
it's mostly salt! The red colorant can be lots of things, but probably plain
old cheapo paprika... were it enough cayenne to turn salt appreciably red then
it would be way too hot for the vast majority. In fact if it contained even a
very small quantity of cayenne (salt accentuates flavors) then you'd have
certainly perceived some heat and mentioned that too rather than just the red
color. But I seriously doubt that any chain fast food joint is just willy
nilly seasoning with cayenne, especially considering how a major portion of the
fast food customer base is young children, and children's taste perceptions are
a hundred fold more acute than their parent's, which is why very few youngsters
will tolerate strongly spiced foods. And that's why your average chili head is
a middle aged male, their taste perceptions are about on par with their sperm
count... they need hot pepper to taste food and viagra with porno flicks to get
hard. Um, not me. LOL
