Forty percent of the subjects drank amounts deemed
hazardous or downright harmful. Researchers recorded the men's
drinking habits over a nine-year period then conducted
neuropsychological tests that showed no evidence of brain damage.

The study concludes that there's no evidence that "persistent lifelong
consumption of alcohol" in any way impairs brain function in old age.
