I kept domesticated rats as a kid. Unlike the hamsters we had, they
absolutely *never* bit. And unlike hamsters, they didn't die if I happened
to drop them. Much, much smarter than hamsters, I might add. And in a
steel-cage match between a rat and a hamster . . . well, let's just say the
rat went his entire career undefeated.

But don't think for a second that rats won't or don't eat meat, especially
in the wild.
