I'm reading Oil by Upton Sinclair because I've recently seen the movie
"There will be Blood". I'm only about 50 pages in,
so too soon for thoughts. I'm also reading Basic Brown. It's
a collection of political anecdotes by (with collaboration) Brown, Â*a
recent past Mayor of San Francisco and
Speaker of the California Assembly.
Sinclair is a hero, and Willie is quite a guy himself. Moderate Lefty
thinking seems to be regaining momentum, and it's way overdue. The
cynic in me says that that Obama won't be an only slightly
reconstructed New Dealer, but I hope he is going to turn out to be
more the aggressive populist than the principled Lincoln-type
pragmatist. His rejection of the gas tax holiday, and what he said
about employment in infrastructure in that context gives me hope.
Only hard work and SHARED sacrifice, especially sacrifice by those at
the very top, can restore this country. I, for one, am willing to
help.
