Deep Fried Mushrooms

I don't know what kind of batter/coating you're thinking of, but I
made tempura last week with shrimp and veggies. I had white button
mushrooms on hand and some porcinis (now they're calling them "baby
bells"), so they both got the tempura treatment. They were better
than I expected, and as someone has mentioned they retained heat very
well. Can't remember if I've ever had mushrooms at a tempura bar.
