Good lord, woman, where have you been? Popular "snack" in
restaurants. Battered and deep fried button mushrooms with a
dipping sauce (usually mayo based). Why, we've even heard of them
down here in Tennessee!
Maybe it's because I don't eat in chains like Red Lobster and Olive
Garden? Sorry, not only can't I imagine them.... they don't even
sound remotely appetizing.
Hey, just because I worked at Dead Lobster doesn't mean I eat there!
Olive Garden, once. These were a snack at a local hot spot. So
sorry you don't get out much in "SF". Not like they're a new thing.
Pull in the claws, Jill. Here's where I ate last night. No fried
vegetables there. http://www.chowfoodbar.com/park_menu.html Hubby
ordered their vegetarian tortilla soup and we split the warm chocolate
cake for dessert. He had the short ribs, I had the pork chops. We
ate upstairs in their quasi outdoor area.
(retracting claws) Sorry, but honest to god you never heard of fried
mushrooms? It's not a "southern thing". I rarely see fried anything on
menus here, despite all the hoo-ha about everything in the south being
fried. But 30 years ago fried mushrooms were a very popular appetizer.
