Default Sweet Sixteen

Hi gang. Every word of this is true.

My daughter's 16th birthday fell on Saturday April 19, when it was her
weekend at my place. I asked her what she wanted for a Sweet Sixteen party
and she said: "I have it all planned, Dad. You will have eight girls for two
nights, and you will be our slave.

"There will be 4-way barbecue. There will be ribs, chicken, brisket, and
pulled pork. You will make a pot of beans, cole slaw, potato salad, mac
salad, homemade rolls, and Brazilian Orange cake for dessert."

Well I did it all in the Kamado and it all came out perfect. No sauce, no
mop, just everything rubbed the night before with salt, pepper, Old Bay, and
a pinch of sugar. Lump and plum wood only, at a steady 200-225 degrees. It
took from sunup but that comes with the territory.

The brisket and the pulled pork were just perfect. The brisket was pink and
moist at the center with a perfect ring. The pork was pullable (I made the
North Carolina coleslaw with the vinegar sauce on the side), the ribs were
just falling off the bone, and the chicken -- well -- the chicken tasted
like candy.

The girls just packed it away -- no finicky eaters in the bunch -- but
nobody enjoyed themselves more than I did. It does an old dad proud when his
baby girl wants nothing more than good barbecue. Looks like I raised her
right. Cheers.

That is wonderful!! And what a tribute to you that at her age, she was
able to brag on her Dad's K'ing that she included her good friends. The
Kamado makes it almost too easy to impress foodies with, doesn't it?
We have 2 friends of our son, all in the 40 yr old range, that come
here for the NASCAR races twice a year. We spoil them rotten with
good K Kooking!! And they spoil us rotten by bringing great steaks,
tilapia(which we have for Breakfast on race day) and King Crab legs.
They tried to find the pulled pork one night to mess with us, and
couldn't find it..... it was 'resting' in the cooler wrapped in
towels. I told them before I went to bed they would never find it!!
They say they could never find a 5 star hotel that could feed them as
well as we do!!
It really warms the heart to feed people well, doesn't it? Enjoy your
daughter, they grow up way too fast.
