A friend tries to convince my wife to join her to buy a Quiznos Sub. I did a
little investigation on web. Surprisingly, found many Quiznos restaurants
are for sale in Canada, as compared to only a few for Subway. Well, it seems
there are many many more Subway's than Quiznos around. I feel something
wrong, but our friend can't give a reason.
I love the taste of Quiznos, and it's better than Subway for me. From my
visits to the quiznos nearby, its business looks good. It's a little pricy,
I think it's because of the use of unprocessed meat (healthier?). But why so
many owners want to sell it?
"It's a little pricey" is a dealbreaker for many (including myself).
When I eat at Subway, I like the "Daily Specials." $2.99, U.S., for a
sandwich loaded with veggies, usually something like cold cuts or
turkey breast or tuna (for the Snappers amongst us).
The Quiznos nearby the Subway I go to (Santa Cruz, CA, which stands for
California, not Canada, because of the greater population in CA than in
all of Ca) is usually nearly empty, with nobody in line. I often look
in as I am walking the Subway, further down the main street.
By contrast, the Subway often has 4-6 people in line.
People value deals. They don't like paying $6 (U.S.) for some sandwich
supposed having "unprocessed" (what is that, exactly?) meat.
The meats at Subway taste perfectly fine to me. Ham, salami, etc. are
all "processed."
This is likely why so many Quiznos franchises are for sale as compared
to Subway franchises. People like value for their money.
P.S. I've even eaten at Quiznos a few times. I didn't care for the
elaborate toasting, the relatively small amount of meats, and the whole
"tude" thing. Give me an honese Subway sandwich, no toasting, just the
real deal, any day. At half the price.

I prefer Subway too, of course. Quizno's screamed "gimmick" from the
moment it opened. "It's toasted" (yeah, so am I, you don't see my
bragging about it....)
Not only that, Subway has called "checkmate" on Quizno's by offering
to toast your $3 daily special for you. So far I've declined, as they
are forced to charge sales tax on toasting due to some obscure CA tax
law (that's California for you Canucks!). I'd probably pay the tax if
I thought it would improve the taste but I prefer the piles of veggies
with oil and vinegar on the meat. No need for toasting.
