Went there again today, this time for lunch. Ordered the sushi deluxe lunch,
which I think is quite a bargain, as far as lunches go. 10 pieces of nigiri,
one California roll, and miso soup, for $11.95. For nigiri, I received: 2
salmon, 2 tuna (more like toro!), 1 ika (squid), 1 tako (octopus), 1 saba
(mackerel), 1 hamachi (yellowtail), 1 ebi (cooked shrimp) and 1 suzuki (striped
bass or fluke or whatever). Pieces were large. Fish very fresh. California roll
was good for what it was. Salmon was once again very buttery and delectable.
Tuna was definitely either chu-toro or toro. Very tendery, buttery
consistency.... wow. I really expected to be disappointed on the mackerel, but
was quite surprised, as it had excellent flavor. Went overboard and ordered uni
(excellent!), ikura (also excellent! Firm eggs, not overly salty), more salmon
and more mackerel. Had my own pot of tea (regular Chinese tea, but still a nice
touch).
I learned the sushi chef's name - Haiu. I told him I mentioned the restaurant
in ne.food.. and then a few minutes later an appetizer appeared "on the house"
consisting of a tempura soft shell crab claw and 2 tempura sea scallops, in a
sauce. Excellent. I also spoke with the manager and found out they will be
having a lunch buffet in the next few weeks.. featuring sushi.. and then they
plan to have a weekend brunch buffet with dim sum.
The sushi at this place is pretty basic.. they do have a "specials board" but
it's special makis. But what they do have they do really well. Check this place
out, if for nothing more than the incredible tuna and salmon!
My bill came to $26.01 after my discount (I had a 15% off coupon), and before
tip. I plan on hitting this place often for lunch. The same amount of sushi is
offered for dinner, with the additional of one more nigiri, but the price is
$7.00 additional (18.95).
